Temperament & personality

The Bengal is a hybrid between a domestic cat and an Asian leopard cat, retaining a wild, exotic appearance with distinctive rosettes and spots. Despite the wild appearance, the Bengal is a tame and social cat – but with a very high activity level. It loves to climb, chase and explore, and needs plenty of space and stimulation. Bengal suits experienced cat owners with an active home and the possibility of secure outdoor access.

🏥 Health

Bengal can be predisposed to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), progressive retinal atrophy (PRA-b) and pyruvate kinase deficiency (PK-def). DNA testing is available for most. Choose breeders who test their breeding cats systematically.

✂️ Care & grooming

The short coat is easy to maintain. The Bengal, however, needs a great deal of mental and physical stimulation – daily interactive play is a minimum. Cat trees, tunnels and fetch training are popular. Not suited to being a solo cat without stimulation.
