The Maine Coon is one of the world's largest cat breeds, known for its impressive size, tufted ears and bushy tail. Originally from Maine in the USA, it is adapted to harsh climates with a water-resistant coat. Often called the 'dog cat' because it is extremely social, responsive and loves company. It is curious and playful well into adulthood, and thrives in families with children and other animals.

🏥 Health

Maine Coon can be predisposed to HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). DNA testing and echocardiography should be performed on breeding cats. Hip dysplasia is also known in the breed. Always choose breeders who test their breeding cats regularly.

✂️ Care & grooming

The semi-long coat is relatively easy to maintain – brushing twice a week keeps it in good condition. The Maine Coon is an active breed that enjoys interactive play and climbing. It is fond of water and can be fascinated by dripping taps.
